To put a smile on faces of owners of such devices, XDA senior member Hikari Calyx came up with a tool known as Windows 10 Mobile Offline Update Package.Īs the name suggests, it’s a tool meant to update old Windows 8.1 Phone devices to Windows 10 Mobile via an offline channel.
Windows 10 Mobile arrived in 2015 and as usual with OS upgrades, not every Windows 8.1 Phone device was eligible to get the OTA. Windows 10 Mobile users will no longer be eligible to receive new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free assisted support options or online technical content updates from Microsoft for free. Windows 10 Mobile, version 1709 (released October 2017) is the last release of Windows 10 Mobile and Microsoft will end support on December 10, 2019. From this date onwards, there won’t be any patches for the OS. It will lose support next week Tuesday, December 10, 2019.
This announcement comes at a time when Windows 10 Mobile (build 1709) is on its knees. Microsoft Lumia 950 XL, one of the last flagships running Windows 10 Mobile Matter of fact, this should affect Windows 10 Mobile apps in general. What this means is that as from the said date going forward, Microsoft’s Office apps on Windows 10 Mobile will stop receiving patches, be it bug fixes or security-related updates. In an official statement published on December 6, Microsoft confirmed that Office apps on Windows 10 Mobile that include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote will no longer be supported on the platform after January 12, 2021.
